jackson joins us with a preview. good morning. >> hi. a lot of folks will be watching this speech closely. for the second morning in a row, the markets were open after a slump as investors worry if lawmakers don't do something to avoid tax hikes and spending cuts. this afternoon, president obama will walk into the east room of the white house today to call on congress to work together. to figure how to handle the fiscal cliff. >> these folks and the president have to worry -- if they come out too sharp, they could create a deeper recession. >> that is the warning from the congressional budget office. the new report says a lengthy standoff could end with millions out of workthey believe the standoff could end with millions out of work and the unemployment rate at 9.1%. most lawmakers will not let it get to that. they will try to hammer out a deal when the new congress takes over capitol hill. in the speech today, the president is expected to push for the bush-era tax cuts for everybody except the wealthiest americans.
